Stupidity Vs. Stubbornness -- 3.03.03
You may have heard about the recent brew-haha over the Pledge of Allegiance. Well, if you haven't heard, it basically boils down to this: Michael Newdow--hearby known as "The Jackass"--sued his daughter's school because he didn't want his little angel to have to say the "Under God" part of the Pledge of Allegiance. A California circuit court ruled that the Pledge is unconstitutional because it endorses religion.

Attorney General John Ashcroft--hearby known as "Whitey"--condemned the decision, saying the Justice Department will "spare no effort to preserve the rights of all our citizens to pledge allegiance to the American flag." Does anyone else not see how the conflict between The Jackass and Whitey can be resolved really easily? "Under God" was put into the pledge in 1954 during the Cold War because, heaven forbid (pun intended), otherwise people might get us confused with the pinko godless commies. Now here's a novel idea: since the Cold War has been over for 14 years now, WHY NOT TAKE THIS JINGOISTIC BULLSHIT OUT OF THE PLEDGE!? Whitey wants Americans to say the pledge. The courts say "Under God" is unconstitutional. A retarded chimp could see how easy this solution is to come to. Just take the God-damned "Under God" out from the pledge and everything is peachy keen.

I don't care one way or the other if this ruling stands. I got through saying the pledge in elementary school and there ain't nobody that can make me say it again, with "God" or not. I'm not unpatriotic, but I'm also not jingoistic. I fall somewhere in that hazy middle called apathy.
